Signal Mountain

A vibrant mountain community with a suburban feel

Welcome to Signal Mountain

Hamilton County, Tennessee, is home to one of Chattanooga's most desirable neighborhoods: Signal Mountain. This affluent but sparse suburb lies just north of Chattanooga and south of Walden, surrounded by the stunning Tennessee River Gorge.

The community of Signal Mountain offers a unique blend of mountain ambiance, modern amenities, and traditional charm. On Signal Mountain, you can find housing options as varied as the people who make this area home, from spacious brick mansions and quaint bungalows to rustic log cabins in the woods.

Signal Mountain has a rich history. The town was once used as a smoke signal area by Native Americans, then taken over by the US Army for the same purpose. Eventually, it was settled as the affluent community it is today.

Things to Do

Forested pathways, breathtaking vistas, meandering streams, and a maze of different trails make Signal Mountain a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Visit Signal Point, a reservation that served as a communication point for soldiers during the Civil War. Signal Point is a hidden gem of Chattanooga, offering breathtaking vistas of the Raccoon Mountains and the mystical landscapes formed by the Tennessee River below. The reservation is also a trailhead for the Cumberland Trail, which traverses the Cumberland Plateau for several hundred miles.

Stop by Rainbow Lake, where a dam constructed in 1916 produces a steep but short waterfall, and a swinging bridge crosses the creek below.

Not a hiking enthusiast? Less than 20 minutes from Chattanooga's downtown, the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club offers 18 holes of championship golf and social, pool, and dining facilities. Additionally, Signal Mountain owns and maintains several playgrounds for public use. Plan a day trip with your family to the Pumpkin Patch Playground in Walden.
